About the Owner
Maegan Nunley, P.E., CFM – President and Chief Engineer
I discovered my passion for Water Resources while attending college at the University of Arkansas. Since graduating in 2012, my career has been focused on hydrology and hydraulics – a field that has become increasingly important as flood events become more frequent and more severe throughout the United States.
My experience includes a wide variety of project types: watershed level master plans, transportation and land development drainage design, flood damage reduction, dam breach analyses, floodplain modeling and mapping, municipal storm water infrastructure, conveyance and regional storage, MS4 permitting, and levee systems.
Civil engineers are first and foremost public servants – striving to protect the world around us and design infrastructure improving quality of life today and for future generations. My goal is to provide innovative solutions that improve storm water infrastructure now and in the future.
When I’m not attempting to reduce flood risk, I can be found training or showing my two Golden Retrievers, out on the bike trail, or spending time with my husband.
All photos featured on this site are courtesy of my mom and project coordinator, Margaret Moon. Each photo was taken during one of her adventures somewhere in the great state of Arkansas.
Hydrology and Hydraulics is my passion and I believe that my diverse experience across the country gives me a unique perspective.
Professional Background
October 2019 - Present
Luna Engineering, LLC | Chicago, IL
In the Fall of 2019, I decided to start my own engineering company. Somehow, someway I survived starting a business less than 6 months before COVID hit. I love what I do and I’ve never looked back. My primary project type has been land development. However, I’ve been doing more and more municipal work in recent months (as of mid-2023). I have projects and am licensed in both Ohio and Texas. I am very lucky to have two former employers for clients. Thank you to all of my clients for trusting me.
Part of the reason I became self-employed was to have flexibility in case we needed to relocate yet again. This turned out to be a good decision, because we did relocate again for my husband’s job in 2022. That flexibility allows me to work remotely for my clients, yet I can travel when I need to. It has been a learning experience to be my own accountant, HR person, IT person, and admin in addition to doing all of the engineering.
August 2018 - October 2019
Senior Project Engineer, Stantec | Columbus, OH
At Stantec, I continued honing my project management and technical skills. I worked on projects such as storm water master plans, FEMA floodplain modeling, levee repair benefit:cost analysis, and erosion control design. My projects ranged from Colorado to Ohio to that state up north to New York. Working at global firm gave me unprecedented experience. My role also included personnel management, company promotion, and business development. I was privileged to represent Stantec at the 2019 Ohio Storm Water Conference, at which I presented on calibrating 2D models to Hurricane Harvey.
September 2017 - August 2018
Project Engineer, Costello, Inc. | Houston, TX
Other than becoming self-employed, this was the only job change I made that was not due to moving for my husband’s job. I chose the move to Costello because I was ready for a new challenge. Costello provided just that. My role at Costello accelerated my professional growth and technical skills like never before: I learned to balance performing my own work with managing that of other engineers. My projects were technically challenging, complex, and among the first in response to Hurricane Harvey. I built my first watershed-wide unsteady HEC-RAS model, my first 1D/2D XP-STORM model, and performed my first 2D dam breach analysis in HEC-RAS. All in the short span of just 10 months. The only reason I left was because my husband was transferred to a new post in Columbus, Ohio.
June 2014 - September 2017
Project Engineer, DE Corp | Houston, TX
Joining the DEC team was a major transition for me: public sector to private sector. My husband’s first job transfer necessitated this transition, and I am very thankful for my time at DEC. I learned the ins and outs of the consulting world, grew my technical skills, wrote my first proposals, and trained my first junior engineer. I was able to see multiple projects through from beginning to end: from writing the statement of qualifications to producing the models/report to signing and sealing the finished product.
July 2012 - May 2014
Assistant County Engineer, Ellis County | Waxahachie, TX
My first job out of college will always hold a special place in my heart. I learned what it truly means to be an engineer and a public servant. My mentor challenged me, taught me priceless networking skills, and gave me freedom to grow as much as I was able. My experience was broad: I managed the County’s MS4 program, represented the County on a technical transportation committee at the North Central Texas Council of Governements, reviewed the drainage design plans for proposed developments, and was the Contracting Officer for the construction phase of NRCS dam repairs. I also learned how to to deal with people: from county judges and commissioners to concerned citizens and everyone in between.

In May 2012, I received my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas. My passion for water resources started at the U of A. I’m a second generation graduate and as an Arkansas native, I’m extremely proud and honored to have name engraved on Senior Walk.
